Radhanath Swami on Hijacking of the soul

We’re on this wonderful airship of the human life traveling back home, back to God.  What maya, or illusion will do? She will send her hijackers, the six enemies—lust, envy, anger, pride, greed and delusion.  These are our enemies and they’re living right within our hearts and it’s their duty to
somehow or other hijack the soul and bring this airplane of human life to the material conceptions of existence.  Then the atmais like a hostage.  Atma means the body, the mind and the soul.  All three become hostages of maya, and they are imprisoned.  Hostage means like a prisoner, we can’t get out and this is what happens when a spiritual practitioner is negligent: one becomes imprisoned by material desires, by lust, by anger, by pride, by greed, by illusion, by envy.  And once we become like a hostage of maya’s forces, it’s practically impossible to escape.
