Work in Divine Consciousness

Radhanath Swami on Work in divine consciousness

Many people say that work is worship.  They feel that if they do not do anything harmful to anyone and work throughout the day that is all they have to do.  They do not have to just sit at one place and think the name of God or something.

Work is worship, but the question is worship of whom? Is it worship of senses?  Is it worship of mind?  Is it worship of materialistic people? Is it the worship of God?

Work is worship if it is consciously and lovingly offered as a service to the Lord according to His desires. When we work with humility, in remembrance of the Lord, for the pleasure of the Lord, then we are worshiping God, and that type of work will liberate us from all bondage.  Any other kind of work will only cause bondage and ultimately the repetition of birth and death.

If work was worship then why did not Krishna tell Arjuna simply to fight? The seven hundred verses of Bhagavad Gita that Krishna spoke were to teach Arjuna to fight in a spirit of love, devotion and sacrifice to the Supreme Lord; they taught divine consciousness.
