Question: I read in Shrimad Bhagavatam that one should be satisfied with whatever he receives through his destiny. Does it mean that a person should just sit quietly and make no extra endeavor for progress?
Radhanath Swami: If that was the case then why did Krishna tell Arjuna to fight the battle of Kurukshetra? Why didn’t he tell Arjuna to sit quietly and make no progress? What this means is our future depends on what we do now. But our present is due to what we had done in the past. Correct? So learn—in whatever situation you are in—to be content with remembrance of God, Krishna.
That doesn’t mean that for our practical welfare in this world, we don’t work hard. That doesn’t mean that in the service to the Lord, we don’t work hard to create something wonderful in the future. But as far as the present moment, whatever situation we are in, we should accept it as the mercy of God; we should accept it as something we have created for ourself. It is our destiny.
Anything we do, if we do it as an offering to God, it has eternal value.
I was challenging before to my mother : If destiny says ‘i am going to pass a n exam , then why study? and if destiny says i am not going to pass then again why study? ‘ so whatever the destiny is , I need not study. But this answer puts additional dimension : Love of God, which goes above arguments and logic. Thank you swami.
quite fascinating clarification by Radhanath Swami Maharaj.
Very convincing answer – for the present moment whatever situation you are in, accept it as the mercy of God; but this doesn’t mean stop working hard in the service of God for creating something wonderful in the future.
Thank you Maharaj for these enlightening words!
The much-asked query perfectly answered..Thank you
All Glories TO H.H.Radhanath Swami Maharaj

To serve the will of the Lord is our destiny
As Radhanath Swami has pointed out very succinctly, “… in whatever situation you are in—… be content with remembrance of God…”.
I thank him for presenting the “content” formula so nicely.
Only if each person on this planet could mould his life accordingly.

This has been the confusion for so many years … But this explains it all so easily. Thank you Radhanath Swami.
