Radhanath Swami - Building a spiritual foundation

Whether we are doctors, lawyers, businesspersons, judges, farmers, monks, students, homemakers or secretaries; whatever our natural inclination may be in the world, we must build our lives upon the foundation of truth.  We recommend that everyday before beginning our work we make our priorities straight that our first business in human life is to develop self-realization, to become pure in heart and be an instrument in the hands of God for the benefit of others.  Therefore, first thing in the day we should meditate.  The simplest, the most sublime form of meditation which anyone—even a child—can perform is the chanting of God’s names.

God has many names. The name of God is not different from God.  All the power and truth of God is contained within His name.  Recently, someone was telling me that one meditation teacher said, ‘You should not meditate on God’s name.  It is just a word.’  It is not a word.  It is the divine transcendental vibration.  The greatest saints, the most compassionate servants of society throughout history have claimed the divinity, the purity and the ultra-potency in the name of God and all the scriptures declare the same.
