Radhanath Swami on God’s Love

We see some people are suffering so terribly. Sometimes it is very bewildering, ‘Why God is doing this to these people?’ Superficially, it seems very cruel and unfair. The reality is something altogether different.  According to our actions we must accept an equal and opposite reaction. That is the law of karma. Suffering and miseries are the manifestation of our indulgence in certain sinful activities in the past.  We may or may not remember those activities.

This stringent law of karma is designed and orchestrated by God. There is only unmotivated, uninterrupted love emanating from the absolute truth at all times in all forms. We may not understand, but even the most suffering, most difficult condition of this world is love being offered by God to that soul. It is not cruel at all. Physically it may be cruel, but for the soul, it is like a love of a parent for his child’s own benefit.

Try to explain to a child, ‘You are being punished because your parents love you.’ Generally, he or she will not accept; but then an adult can understand. When we grow up spiritually, we see there is nothing but God’s love pervading everything, everywhere. The perfection of life is not to be free from physical or mental suffering. Because the body and mind is going to suffer today or tomorrow no matter what we do. Birth, old age, disease and death are physically terrible. But perfection of life is when we can perceive and appreciate God’s love in every single aspect of this creation. When we are willing to be grateful for God’s love in any way it comes, knowing that according to what we have done, this is God’s way of bringing us closer to Him. This is not blind faith; this is not just a superimposition of some nice philosophy to cope with the problems of life. This is the Supreme Truth. This is what has been revealed by all the great saints, by all the great incarnations and by all great scriptures.

  1. When we realize that all the sufferings in our lives are just because of a compassionate heart of our Lord, we do not really suffer, but take those sufferings as an award from the Lord. Thank you Radhanath Swami for encouraging us to continue the battle even in adverse situations in our lives.

  2. As a doctor we come across so many suffering human beings and your teachings are very helpful to help them in right conscious

  3. H.H.Radhanath Swami is one who has gone through practically all revealed scriptures. He knows that truth is the same in all of them. He being purified in his consciousness can see love of God in everything, just as an adult can see the reason why parents were reprimanding and is grateful to the parent for it. A person who reaches this level is already liberated and lives blissfully even in hell. At the end he says that this is not sentimentalism, but what is empahasized in all revealed scriptures. If only people could follow their scriptures truthfully!

  8. Excellant paragraph – “But perfection of life is when we can perceive and appreciate God’s love in every single aspect of this creation. When we are willing to be grateful for God’s love in any way it comes, knowing that according to what we have done, this is God’s way of bringing us closer to Him.” Hope to be able to follow that some day in this life.

  9. Thank you, for clearing the doubt , why good people suffer and why at all there is suffering the world.

  10. Radhanath Swami so wonderfully explains that we need to see God’s loving hand and His loving mercy on us in all situations and circumstances.

  11. Many times I also had the same question when see poor suffering people. But this article answers my question. Thank you swami ji.

  12. Mahraj has presented here very simple and artistic truth from suffering to Love of Godhead.

  13. Radhanath Swami explains such complex philosophy in very simple and acceptable way. The example of parents punishing child out of love seems to be so apt!

  14. HH Radhanath Swami has put the philosophy in such simple words. Thank you Radhanath Swami for such simplicity of your words and actions.

  15. Amazing! There can be no better answer to the question which ppl keep asking, “why are these bad things happening to me? I have not done any harm to anyone in my life ever!!”
Maharaj has answered it so well and precisely!

  16. Thank you Maharajah for explaining the law of karma.
Most of the time we get angry or frustrated with our circumstances, what we have to remember it is the result of our past actions, but if we have no full faith in rebirth, how can be accept law of karma.

  17. Thank you for sharing this beautiful post by Radhanath swami. Simple yet completely explains the concept of Karma.

  18. ” Physically it may be cruel, but for the soul, it is like a love of a parent for his own benefit” Such an excellent way of looking at sufferings in this world. Thank u

  19. Radhanath Swami’s explaination and revealation about the absolute truth is so inspiring and hope giving: “There is only unmotivated, uninterrupted love emanating from the absolute truth at all times in all forms.”

  20. People speak about positive thinking but in my opinion this is the best application on positive thinking that i have heard… One that not only brings great hope and joy but also greatest upliftment too.

  21. Wonderful article. what we sow ..so we reap! There were few questions in my life which has been answered through this article. Thanks Maharaj

  22. The clear understanding of why people suffer is given by Radhanath Swami here. The analogy of chastisement of a parent for the benefit of the child to understand the punishment of God in the form of suffering for the ultimate benefit of the soul explained by Radhanath Swami is amazing. When we grow spiritually then we understand the laws of nature and unmotivated love of God.

  23. HH Radhanath Maharaj ki jai. Such a crystal clear understanding of the complicated thing like Karma. Its amazing. Any ordinary person can understand.

  24. HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj gives proper understanding of suffering thereafter which will manifest the seed of Bhakti for the benefit of all souls.

  25. This is the most asked question: ‘Why God did this to such a pious person?’
Radhanath Swami has revealed a perfect answer to this question.

  26. Most of the people use this argument to prove God does not exist but Radhanath Swami Maharaj addressed it beautifully.

  27. When Radhanath Swami speaking, all our missconceptions will dissipate from heart and he lightup light of knowledge and so we can be connected to that supreme absolute truth. Radhanath Swami Maharaj ki Jai.

  28. Very nice explanation by Radhanath Swami. These explanations of Radhanath Swami are so effective because they are true replica of the message what Lord krishna gives through Bhagavad Gita.

  29. I have not done anything wrong not harmed anybody, then “why is this happening to me”, sounds familiar. Lack of understanding the facts and being shaky in our love for God makes one react thus to situations especially those causing suffering. Radhanath Swami being always mercifully drives home the point for us to realize the cause of all what we have to go through and importantly what approach we should take in suffering situations, he nicely quotes “suffering is inevitable but pain is optional”

  30. very true.No one can escape the from the law of karma.if you commit a crime then you are punished the under the law of the land where the crime is committed. Similarly if we commit sin we are punished the under the laws of karma.

  31. Thank you Radhanath swami for teaching us to see the loving hand of God behind every situation in life.

  32. If we take our suffering as god’s mercy we don’t feel any pain . in fact often Radhanath Swami Maharaj says in his lecture we should pray to the Lord I deserve worse but you are so merciful you have given so little and whatever is happening it is my past karma.
……..so we should always be grateful to God

  33. Merely knowing that we are suffering due to our past karmas can be depressing and scary. But understanding that ultimately God is letting everything happen out of His causeless love for us is uplifting and joyful.

  34. This is so deep and so beautiful. It will take some time for us conditioned souls to even come to grasps with what Maharaj has just explained. With Maharaj’s help we will come to this understanding. Hari Bol!

  35. “When we are willing to be grateful for God’s love in any way it comes, knowing that according to what we have done, this is God’s way of bringing us closer to Him.”God has different methods how H can get his children close to him.

  36. Radhanath Swami makes such profound statements : The perfection of life is not to be free from physical or mental suffering. Because the body and mind is going to suffer today or tomorrow no matter what you do. Birth, old age, disease and death are physically terrible. But perfection of life is when we can perceive and appreciate God’s love in every single aspect of this creation.

I pray to the Lord that I always remember this teaching.

  37. Radhanath Swami is expert in making a child-like brain understand matters that matured adults would understand.

  38. Beautiful article……generally man thinks of God in difficulties & if the difficulties still continue they conclude that either God is cruel or he does not exist……this article by Radhanath Swami is an eye opener for such people

  39. Radhanath Swami’s words ring true because he is a perfect example of the teachings of the scriptural wisdom. He doesn’t speak mere theoretically, but with deep realizations.

  40. When I look back into the past at what then was very painful, it seems so insignificant now in the present. And those situations contributed positively to my spiritual growth. Indeed it is impossible for us to understand God’s plan, but we can put faith in Him and be grateful.

  41. All Glories To H.H.Radhanath Swami Maharaj

Haribol. What an wonderful explanation of what Karma is.

    Hare Krishna!

  42. Radhanath Swami has answered one the FAQ’s thrown at devotees with such a deep meaning that the answer will leave a deep impact on whoever listens and follows it.

  43. ‘As you sow, so you reap’-this is the law of nature.Whatever mistakes we have committed in the past, we are suffering now.Inspite of this situation how to invoke the love of God and be peaceful is being taught here by Radhanath Swami.Beautiful article.

  44. The laws of material nature are subtle. When we perform activities in this world either good or bad we do not know how the reaction is going to come and what type of happiness or distress is waiting for us.Normally we tend to blame God when we face the reactions and take credit when we enjoy the fruits. But truth is that in all conditions of ours God is our constant companion as a Paramatma. He is our ever well wisher. Therefore great saints are right in their conclusions.Thank you.
