Among the innumerable animals of the world, two are most deadly: the serpent and the envious human being. Of the two who do you think is more dangerous?
My spiritual master Srila Prabhupada used to say, ‘The reason why serpent is less dangerous is because through different herbs and mantras we can make a serpent very nice, but an envious human being, nothing can make him nice.’ Lions, tigers and leopards won’t even hurt us if we cross their path. Only if we threaten them will they be angry with us. A serpent will bite us if we get in his way. But the most it can do is kill one person at a time. It is not out of envy; it’s either to protect itself or its babies. Human beings are building bombs where they can kill millions of people at a time for no reason except to protect their false egos. So who is more dangerous?
